Lessons
Please note that all my music lessons are remote via zoom.
Playing music is incredibly fun, but for many, the idea of music lessons can be very intimidating. I myself quit music for several years when I was younger after several mean music teachers almost soured me to music forever. I’m so glad that I gave music one more try and experienced some amazing teachers who helped show me just how wonderful the world of music is. Because of this I strive to teach in a very low-pressure way that helps make music accessible for all students at any level and any age.
For over 18 years I’ve been teaching piano, drums, music theory, composition, and songwriting as my primary job. I have taught children from age 4 to adults in their 80s. I work with my students to help them learn music that they want to learn, while also developing the core skills needed to be a well- rounded musician. I am a massive music theory nerd and am well versed in over 1200 years of western music theory, as well as modern classical, rock/pop, jazz, and several world styles, which means I can help you with most any musical path you’d like to walk.
I also firmly believe that having any amount of music in your life helps make it better. While practice is indeed the biggest key to making a strong musician, I work with whatever level of practice you are wanting to do and will never guilt you for not getting “enough” practice. This is especially aimed towards adult students, for whom it can be difficult to find time to practice in our busy world. You are never too old to get a little music in your life.
In 2020 I moved to exclusively teaching remotely, and I’ve found it to be an absolutely wonderful medium for everything except beginner drum instruction, which I no longer offer. While remote lessons aren’t always for everyone, I’ve found that it actually helps foster far greater levels of musicianship and independence than I experienced in my years of teaching in-person, and it allows me to take on students from around the world.
I primarily teach weekly lessons, with payments by the month, but I also offer one-off lessons for students who want a composition reviewed, a music theory lecture, or for those self workers who simply want some guided musical assistance here and there.
