ABOUT ME

I have been playing music for almost my whole life. It started with band classes in 5th grade but soon turned into playing and singing for rock bands, symphonic orchestras, churches, and choirs all over the greater south Seattle area. I studied music at Green River College, but the majority of my knowledge came from several amazing private teachers in the Seattle area, extensive self study, and volunteering at choirs and schools. 

 

This odd mix of training has made me a jack-of-all-trades musician. In a single choir performance, for example, I sang, played drumset and glockenspiel, conducted, and had the choir sing one of my original compositions.

While I do all that in performance, my main loves are actually teaching and composing. I've been teaching for over fifteen years and am known as the person to refer students to when traditional lessons aren't working well, because I adapt my teaching style to the individual student. 

As a composer, I am heavily influenced by minimalist and contemporary composers such as Arvo Part, Henryk Gorecki, and Ola Gjeilo, as well as Renaissance music, chant, and the English composers of the 20th century Holst and Vaughn Williams. I primarily write choral music, but I've also done some soundtrack work.

 

Along with composing for choir, I have also been working on my choral conducting and directing skills. I am currently the assistant artistic director of the Market Street Singers, a community choir in the Ballard area of Seattle, and I also volunteer with Ballard High School's choral program.
